Advancing responsible sourcing
in mineral value chains
European industry urgently needs minerals and metals to increase productivity, meet green technology demands and remain globally competitive. Despite initial concerns about non-compliance with EU ESG standards due to less oversight, the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector is now coming into focus as a supplier for the EU’s green and digital transition to meet growing demand and global competition.
Numerous private and public sector initiatives in recent years have significantly improved the way the sector operates, and there are many case studies demonstrating the reliability of the small-scale mining sector as a supplier, even under strict ESG import regulations. In this webinar on 24 October 2023, the RE-SOURCING project discussed how to responsibly source from small-scale and artisanal mining together with a diverse panel of policy makers, representatives of ASM communities, consultants with on-the-ground experience and industry representatives .
